Psychic: Where did it all begin?
Psychic readers have provided inspired direction to people all over the world for years… but where did it all start?
Psychics have been around since the beginning of time. The word psychic stems from the ancient Greek word ‘psyche’ and was used primarily to describe a person who is able to obtain information beyond the human condition.
The earliest recorded psychics are found in ancient Mesopotamia; using the sun, moon and stars as a way to predict the future and guide them in their decision making.
The bible provides tangible evidence of psychics used throughout history; there are numerous accounts of “seers” (1 Samuel, Chapter 9) who were able to use the gift of clairvoyance to see things that were not apparent to the naked eye.
For hundreds of years, psychic readers were embraced by civilizations including royalty and political figures. However, as Christianity spread throughout the world, as did the fear of psychic and the mysteriousness of their unique abilities and thus forced many psychics into hiding for fear of persecution.
This fear didn’t last long and by the mid nineteenth century ‘spirituality’ became a prominent belief in the western world, and psychic mediums became a source of hope and communication for those who still wanted wanted to communicate with those that had past on from the mortal realm.
Like the world, psychics have evolved over time, and many dedicate their lives to using their unique skills to provide direction and comfort to people throughout the world.
